Goodbye 2021 and hello, 2022! Last year was a tough one to say the least and it hasn’t been until this week being a time of reflection and seeing everyone sharing their happy moment via social media, did I truly realise what I went through in 2021.

I’ll spare the details of what made 2021 so miserable and instead share with you what I’ll be focusing on in 2022, out with the old and in with new, or something to that idea…

I don’t want to look at these as New Years Resolutions, they add too much pressure and just don’t work for me…and if the last few years have taught us anything – things change, so why have that extra pressure . Whilst I’d love to tell you I have high hopes of getting fit and travelling more, who knows where I’ll be in 4 weeks, let alone in 6 months time.

I’m quite into the idea of taking it slow this year, working on me and making sure things work out, even if it takes me a little longer or isn’t the most conventions, I’d rather that than get too hung up on making everything perfect and it failing at the first hurdle.

365 NEW DAYS. 365 NEW BEGINNINGS.

A couple days into this year and I’m already having to remind myself to take care of me, take things slow, don’t get too worked up when things don’t first work out, it’s hard to break a habit but I’ll figure it out in no time.

REST.

Okay, so this is a family trait but as a family – we just can’t stop, but there’s nothing fun about burnout. Whether it’s one evening during the week where I switch off my phone and just mentally prepare myself for the next day, or taking a day over the weekend to make zero plans, stay in my jammies and watching shit tv, I want to start taking that time for myself and listening to what I need mentally.

SAVE.

Ah yeah, this might sound like a typical New Years resolution, which I can’t argue with – however, myself and J have been putting money towards a house the last few years and it’s so nice to see we’re now within reach of this becoming reality and after a troubling 2021 and our dreams seeming to becoming harder to achieve – you bet I’m saving every penny this year to make up for lost time.

ps. I’ve been saving for the last few years with my monzo account, 1 penny a day and by December 31st I’ll have over £600 to add to my savings. If you’ve not yet set this up, look into it!

WRITE MORE.

Before the end of ’21, I had every intention of bringing back the blog and as soon as I’d made the payment – my laptop needed it’s second repair of the year, but we’re bringing the blog back this year…even if it’s just for my own personal use. As much as I adore my @SarahLaurenBlogs account, I miss how much energy and effort I used to put into my little website. So whilst I’m still in the process of getting the site up and running, I can’t wait to write again.

CREATE MORE CONTENT.

This one just add on from wanting to write more, we hit 10K on my instagram account last year and it’s just motivated me more to keep creating! I want to focus my attention towards more opportunities, sharing more of what’s to offer in Birmingham, more about my plain-jane style and sharing my mental health. Doing this also means I want to work with more creators & getting to travel a little more to get content and tbh, it’s been two weeks of the new year and I have so many plans with fellow creators, and I can’t wait!

FRIENDSHIPS.

I’ve said goodbye to a lot of friendships over the years but in that time I’ve grown other friendships and I’m so glad to have those people in my life. This year I want to continue to see those relationships go from strength to strength, I’ve also made some really fab connections with people on the internet throughout 2021 and having the opportunity to meet those people would be wonderful.

…and I think that’s about it.

A simple set of goals just to keep me going throughout this year. Nothing too difficult to handle but rewarding all the same.

What are you focusing on this year?
