I truly am a firm believer in the fact that I’m part of a generation that was first warned of the dangers when it comes to strangers on the internet and the same generation that completely ignored it. Now, I’m not going to start advocating that we meet every tom, dick and harry and ignore all red flags, jeezh no – but I’ve met some of my closest friends online and I’d be lost without them.

From making friends with strangers on MySpace and chatting to rando’s in chat rooms to creating a whole community online via blogging, I’m SO pleased with how I’ve handled myself on this weird side of the internet and the joy it’s brought to us all! (…I should also reiterate here, that I never met people when I was 15 from the internet & I was always completely safe).

ANYWAYS, what I’m trying to say is, this could’ve all gone completely different for me and I’m really pleased for the way it’s worked out. I’ve been making friends online via blogging since 2013 and I just wanted to take the time to say thank you!

Thank you for giving me this space to find like minded people.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

A couple of weeks ago I met a few friends for a girls weekend, which surprise, surprise, I met online. We all bonded over a similar interest and have become thick as thieves ever since, they bring me so much comfort and have become such an easy going friendship that has been hard to find over the years – and while we were together for the first time, I was filling them in with so many life stories it dawned on me how often sentences started with ‘my friends on instagram’, ‘the girl I met when blogging’, ‘my internet pal’ – to some this would sound insane, how do you know so many people on the internet and where are you irl friends?

…and truth be told, I’ve sat with this feeling for a few weeks now and this has made me realise how my most stable and most comforting friendships have come from the internet, thankfully most of these friendship have formed because of blogging and content creation – which started as a common interest and it’s taken off from there.

But in this time, it’s reminded me of the amount of friendships I’ve lost over the years and how painful it can still sometimes feel when I’m reminded I have lost someone who was once a huge part of my life, yet deep down I know they didn’t fulfil me the way they should’ve and it’s time to find closure with that.

If we’re going to get personal here, I am struggling at the moment with abandonment and being reminded how many have left me over the years, questioning what I have done wrong and wondering why I’m not worth fighting for and boy, that’s some heavy stuff.

…what I’m trying to say is, life has its challenges, it’s hard to not feel left behind by people you thought would never leave and it’s hard to battle the thought process that you’re a bad person because of how others have treated you but those people aren’t supposed to stick around if they don’t build you up like you need.

Okay – so many this has become a dump of my thoughts and my way of getting these thoughts and feelings off my chest, but the original point to the story is thank you, to all the people I’ve met on the internet and who have become a huge part of my life, it might not be conventional to have met the way we have but you’ve brought so much into my life when others haven’t and I couldn’t be more grateful for you because of that.

Please, excuse me while I go text them all and tell them how much I love them x
